Civil Infrastructure projects provide necessary services to the public, but due to the current methods, materials, management, policies and programs, massive amounts of carbon, both embodied and operational are byproducts. In order to transition to a net zero economy by 2050 and taking into account the idea that most of the infrastructure that will be around in 2050 is already built, every new and rehabilitated infrastructure element must contribute toward the critical transition to the net zero economy.
The goal of this group is to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders from the infrastructure community to raise awareness about embodied carbon, take lessons learned and best practices from the buildings world and apply them to our infrastructure projects. By finding holistic ways to approach embodied carbon reduction in infrastructure projects and expanding on the impact each member of the value chain has, we aim to incorporate carbon management into our “business as usual”
